Hi everyone,
I’m currently restoring a 1988 BJ70 and doing an LSA swap with a 6L80E transmission. I know the purists won’t approve, but I’m ready to retire the old low-powered donk.
After spending two years in “paint jail”, the vehicle has finally made it back to the workshop and is now having the V8 installed.
One thing I’m trying to sort out is air conditioning, as the BJ70 never came with it. My conversion shop wants to fit an under-dash aftermarket evaporator (“suitcase”) unit and remove the factory blower/heater assembly. I’m not too keen on that approach, as I’d prefer something that looks as close to factory as possible. The compressor is this suitcase will be a 12V unit to , but my rather go Toyota and keep under-dash components.

My question is: has anyone fitted a 75 Series (HZJ75) factory air-conditioning evaporator box and associated under-dash components into a BJ70? Does it bolt in, or are modifications required? If modifications are needed, what was involved?

I’m aware the compressor and brackets will be different because of the engine conversion, but I’m specifically interested in whether the 75 Series evaporator box, heater box and related components are compatible with the BJ70 firewall and dashboard footprint.

Any advice, photos or first-hand experience would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!
