I have a friend who wants to buy his first cruiser. If anyone knows of a reasonably clean BJ60 for sale let me know. It can be stock, just reliable and dry inside. Thanks.

I am looking into that for him. I have a source in Tokyo. He isn't sure about going through McDonalds in reverse.

get a 60 series jdm. Then buy the chassis of a lhd canadian 60...............make one rust free lhd tim hortons friendly unit.

or buy a rust free southern us gas fj6* and swap in a diesel your choice 13bt or turboed 3b or 1hdt , or even go the fj80 route slash diesel swap , there is a very nice locked 97 fj 80 with old man emu for about 10 large .

that's my theory too. Then you are not an ICBC profit generator in the months to come. I fear the worst with this RHD issue. Even if you convert a JDM to LHD they still might price you higher, it would take some fighting I imagine.

Depending on motor/tranny combo, the driveline will set you back 8,500-9,500. I'm guessing to have it installed would be a couple of grand (probably more) easily.
GG

Unlike private insurers, ICBC rates are regulated by the BC Utilities Commission. I know Crushers has no love of public insurance but in this case I think it works better for us RHD owners. ICBC can not raise rates unless they prove to the Utilities Commission that a rate increase is required. They also can't do this behind close doors, which means anyone who has an interest has the right to present why a rate increase would not be required. ICBC is only bang their pots and pans to scare people off. If they had any real proof, RHD owners would be paying more money right now.

That said, converting a RHD to LHD IMHO would be a waste of good money. Just get the RHD and enjoy. :grinpimp:

The problem isn't the chassis it's the body. All chassis are drilled for both LHD and RHD, the body is a whole other issue. You'd need a clean '60 series LHD body to make it work plus some significant wiring extensions/changes.

Converting to a LHD is too much of a PIA, easier to get a US FJ and do a diesel swap. If you get lucky pick one up for $2000, get a 13BT with tranny/transfer for ? 6-7000 or are they more? Still gets you a rust free diesel LHD truck. Or get a rusty BJ60 and take a trip down south with Charles and have them fix the truck, I love the pics of the restoration from there.

when I think chassis I think the whole thing frame and body. Like airframe on a plane.

The LHD swap would only require a firewall off the donor rusty IMOP. One fireball member on here(Hawke) had a HJ60 he did a swap on. Had the pro's in Vancouver do it. When he explained the work involved it did not sound that bad.
