After numerous almost-sale offers from a few different countries and a few other buys and sells in 2008 I just couldn't stand to sell my BJ42. However, the deal with myself was that if I was to keep the truck I would drive it, daily, and not keep it tucked away.

So I am looking to install power-steering for the 1982 BJ42 and I need a recommendations on who is the best to do it.

Any help on this would be much appreciated.

(Started her up this morning, 1st time in months, and had the same huge smile on my face as I did the day I got her...priceless.)

Cheers,

James

I'd say we are.
the only problem is we've installed several kits and now have no PS boxes left. I have pumps, pulleys, brackets etc though
If you want to use a PS box from a 60, we could install one next week for you. (it's a lot different but better)

Some 1980 gassers had power
1983/84 diesel 42's had power
I'm sure there are some exceptions and weird options that may add to the number of Cruisers with PS

hey james, I would go for a stock set-up. do a facotry ps pump and box. that truck is too nice to modify

i sure if steve turns over a brake drum or and enine block he could find one somewhere for ya:D

only 83 and 84 has PS...and the 5 speed h55

Found an 84 PS box off a 40 (with a lead from a fellow Cruiser head) and will have it in hand on Monday and in EBI's hands one hour after. It will be a completely stock set up with the exception of a few new lines. All good.

I have a shoulder injury from hockey so I can't wait to have it complete.

You know you need quite a bit of s***e to make this work (I'm sure Steve has filled you in) like a bottom crank pulley, different thermostat housing, a whole whack of brackets...

not a problem

So in other words, Steve has a lot of crap in his shop? :grinpimp:

yep, my house shops are full of crap too, and my yard, and my basement, and, and, and

I've got one of those and it's still in the Cruiser if you want to test drive it

I really do agree. I have my buddy in Costa Rica getting me a 40 series PS box as we speak.
I don't mind replacing factory parts that I can keep and later reinstall if I want to sell it or restore it to original but cutting etc is not an option for me.

For example, I am going to have an Old Man Emu kit installed but all the original parts will be stored.
I can't wait to have the OME and PS installed.

The only thing is when and if you decide to put it back to original, pretty sure you will not be able to replicate the rivets for the ps mount.

You will need a different PS mount which can was available from toyota but I think Landpimp purchased the last one along with the proper shifter housing. Again if you use the BJ60 trans the position will be different and you will have to modify the cover as it sit a bit further back.

Otherwise great mods that make the truck way fun to drive daily.

Thanks Rob.

I have my bud sourcing a PS box for me in Costa Rica. There are 1000s of 80-84 BJ40s down there and I will be down there in late January. I'll have it shipped home and expect it to cost only a couple bucks. The PS is soooooo needed. Can't wait to get her done.
