What is required to put a tachometer on a BJ40? If I find a factory BJ40 tachometer, what else will I need to hook it up? Someone told me that it needs some sort of pick-up unit on bellhousing to read flywheel rotation.
Thanks for the help.

you can also mount a tach that mounts to the alternator... you should ask about diesel tachs at good parts store, they will have them in autometer or other brands.

That is for the BJ60 factory tach. The bellhousing for a BJ40 will not have the bung.

I bought a programmable 0-6000 rpm tach new on E-Bay for about $20 shipped (new is well over $100) for my FJ45LV/turbo 3B project. I plan to use an altenator pickup on it.
