OK, cold here and after work I didn't turn my idle dial up before starting so there I was turning it over and scratching my head as to why it would not start. After about 10 min of trying I realized my error and turned up the dial and started the truck. After I returned home the truck won't turn off. What did I do? I am stalling to turn off for the time being. I know I did something when I was trying to repeatedly start it earlier. It's about -20 outside so it's no fun trying to figure it out with no garage.

Is this a Cdn spec BJ70 with 3B?

If so do a search on EDIC in the diesel section. There should be some pictures to help explain the system and what you want to look for. This could well be the EDIC and probably is not related at all to turning up the hand throttle to maintain idle on the cold engine.

Turning up the dial simply gives it a little more fuel, just like depressing your foot.

When I was trying to start it initially I was pumping the gas quite a bit...could this have caused some issue or could the gas feed be somehow locked open...I tried to do as the manual said and use the fuel cut off but even with real pressure on my part it didn't do anything.

BJ70 - look for an electrical issue with the EDIC system. There may be a bad connection, a wet/dead EDIC relay, a blown fuse etc. Also check that the control rod from the EDIC motor to the injection pump is still in place.

Vacuum related issues are for the 13BT engine, not the 3B.
