bio diesel on 12ht

would like to hear about you experience running bio diesel on your 12ht. besides changing the fuel line is there anything that need to be done to the fuel pump? i am concern about the negative effect on the rubber o ring in the fuel pump. is there a reduction in power? how much conversion need to be done? any long term negative effect to the engine? can i go back and forth between bio diesel and petro diesel fuel when bio diesel is not available?

My suggestion is use a GOOD WATER SEPERATOR Like a RACOR. Some Bio Diesel has a lot of water in it even after it has been filtered.

Most people say my motor is quieter, wow more power. I have seen the aftermath of running unfiltered WVO after a couple of years; holes in pistons, destroyed injectors and so on-- Be carefull

i am just researching, i am not yet convince that i will do it. it would be nice. i already have a racor water separator installed. i want to be able to use bio diesel as much as i can but go back to petro diesel when it is not available. i have 70 gallon capacity on my tanks combine. i am concern on the effect to the fuel system and the amount of modification i have to do and of course power.

i used 70% biodiesel in my 3b, 0 issues, and 70% in my 14bt , 0 issues;just be shure to use quality biodiesel and change you fuel filter every 3 months depending on your driving.

you dont have to make modifications on the pump and yes you are able to switch back to petro diesel when needed . I have use Biodiesel for more than 15 years and my only problem was a clogged filter once.. just as i said before, be sure to get quality bio.

Keep in mind diesel engines were initially designed by Rudolf Diesel to run on various plant oils, peanut oil, hemp oil, etc. I personally noticed a big difference in engine performance. My engine noise was noticeably quieter, EGT's were a few hundred degrees lower and my exhaust smelt good and not like some cancer causing carcinogen... Also my oil didn't get black right away and I would suspect if I had a full time bio diesel supply oil changes could easily be extended.

This my friends is what happens when the petroleum industry (AKA big oil) invented diesel fuel after the diesel engine was already in operation!

If you can help it, I would stay away from bio made from chicken fat, unless you know and trust the source it's coming from. All sorts of proteins that may not be 100% filtered in there to cause problems.

SVO modification

I am told that if I am gonna do this go all the way to a svo modification so that I can use straight vegetable oil, bio diesel and petro diesel or mix all three. What do you all think? Also, do you know a shop in los Angeles who will do this modification?

I know little but I'm listening closely. I am very interested in this. If you were to follow through with this would you make your own fuel or get someone elses? This is what keeps me back from trying it is because I don't want to get a set up to make my own but I don't know where I can get it. Then again I have very limited knowledge on the topic.

I've used the three mixed in various quantities, but never going above 15% SVO and I've never had an issue with my factory setup, been running it for 30 000km's now. Truck honestly runs slightly better than it did on pure petrol diesel and fuel conditioner.

I've run 100% WVO in a 12h-t for 5 years and 80,000km - with great success and no engine problems.

There is a sub section of this forum that focuses on alternative fuels and I've just posted a message there about the suitability of 2H and 12H-T injection pumps for biofuels.

If you follow the guidelines from the FAQ at the Australian Biofuels forum site FAQ #1, otherwise known as a good place to start - Bio Fuels Forums running a 12h-t is no different to any other Direct Injection diesel.

In many ways they are more suited to veggie and BioD than the 1Hz and 1HD-t because they have an inline pump. Yes they have direct injection like the 1HD-t but with good purging practices this should not be a problem.

For me (in Netherlands/Europe) it was to much work/space (gravity filters) and when starting use about 10% = beware of old residue getting loose and clogging filters.
Also government was not supportive (love $hell democracy) and tax evading is a big crime, also a crime was storing 1000 liter waste (the oil) etc.

Centrifuge seems way better, a group of people may be easier to cope with the work and cost?

The metal oil barrels were very nice because of industrial size, but I would now use the 1000 liter plastic IBC: bigger scale and no rust and also same industrial size 2 inch.

And in the beginning biodiesel was a green eco thing, then it changed to murder (because instead of diesel farmers should produce bread) This stopped the whole chain.

I just see another big company is broke, they had many trucks and huge storage tanks:
Op 27-08-2019 is Biodiesel Kampen B.V. te Kampen (Overijssel) failliet verklaard nadat de surseance beëindigd is.

And this company is from two guys who managed to get all the tax and government permits (unreal quest) and were allowed to sell biodiesel, I don't know if they still exist: Biodiesel | 2N-BioFuels

Don't know if this thread is still active, but my father just bought an 80 and a 75 pickup with both equipped with 1Hz diesel engines. The 80 having a factory turbo equipped. Am very interested in doing this myself to save money on both trucks (primarily the pickup)
