Help me understand how that little circlip withstands spring preload and impacts? I don’t understand how it doesn’t jump down a perch? Thanks

I had them on my Tundra and 4Runner for years with no issues. From what I have read, the circlip and perch are actually stronger than the shock body. From what Bilstein says, the body tube fails before the circlip. The only issues I have ever heard of is when the perch is installed upside-down. That can result in suspension collapse.

It’s wedged in there with nowhere to go and a lot of contact area between the perch and the shock body.

Little items can do great things!

The perch fits over the clip such that the clip can't open because it is constrained by the perch. So the ID of the perch is just slightly larger than the OD of the clip in the closed position. There are hundreds of thousands of sets of 5100s and 6112s operating in lots of different vehicles without a reported failure that I've ever heard. ARB also uses a similar setup on the MT64s as well.
