Hi Guys, I got a ding in the windshield that developed a crack before I could get it filled. Searching Mud, the Americans seem able to get new windshields installed for 2 to $300. Phoning Toyota locally, the glass alone is $500. Speedy and Broco are about $500 installed w/new (dechromed:crybaby:) gasket - no idea where the glass is sourced.
Just wondering if anyone has a favorite cruiser windshield place that has good prices AND more importantly knows what they are doing.

Also, should I insist on having the gasket glued/sealed?

why not claim it under your insurance policy? deductible is 2 bills...

...that is of course if youve got the coverage.

otherwise, i dont see how speedy & broco can do ya wrong. im sure theyve got a warranty and guarantee that will make it easy to take back should there be any issues with their work. im sure aftermarket glass should be just as good as oem replacement at a fraction of the cost. its all gotta be DOT etc etc compliant...no?

...speaking of which, ive got a large crack that spans the width of my windscreen. its been annoying me like hell these last couple months..

Unfortunately in this case - no comprehensive insurance. I've always been able to change glass on other vehicles for a little more than the cost of 1 year insurance and deductible, so if I crack a window once every couple of years, and pay for it myself, I'm still ahead..

I'm wondering also whether OEM glass is worth the extra cost, the glass that was in there (aftermarket from the PO) was hit by the tiniest stone, which dinged, and then by the next day, an eight inch crack had formed.

Just call up speedy or apple autoglass. Or whatever big chain. Tell them you have an FJ60.

I paid 250 ish a couple years ago at a ford dealership for my BJ60 windshield replacement.

No need for oem glass.

If your window seal isn't deteriorated then it should be fine. Mine was ok on a 84. But that you would have to buy at mr yota. Good for 10-20 yrs, unless you live in Arizona.

Do you get a better deal if you tell them it's an FJ rather than an HJ??

no better deal. But thing is the USA only got FJ60's. So the aftermarket manufactures only made windshields for that model. They have no clue what an HJ6X is. Or a BJ60. But the windshield is the same.

So it's easier to say FJ60. It's a big market south of us that we buy parts from, so common parts will be cheaper.

Buying a windshield from Toyota for a 60 is kinda silly. That's something the 70 series guys have to do.

My windshield is a PPG, under 300 installed.
