I have been researching my alternator belt noise. It seems that the OEM belts are smooth vs aftermarket cogged belts. The cogged belts produce a whine that make you believe you have an idler pulley problem. I am going to call Cdan in the morning to order OEM belts.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Very common. Do a search using "aftermarket belts" and watch the advice fly.

OE belts are length-matched, that's why they come tied together from Mr. T. You'll be much happier with OE in the long run. Save the aftermarket junk for trail spares that you might need in 60K miles!

Dan.

Yep. OEM belts are the only way to go. I've still got the cogged belts on my truck that PO put on. It's LOUD.

It sounds like a supercharger (without any of the benefits :D)

I just got my new belts from Cruiserdan and can't wait to get them on. I did the same thing on my last 80 and difference is amazing. You'll be glad you switched to OEM.
