bellhousing removal

i'm trying to remove the bellhousing off my 2F so i can mount it on an engine stand, i removed 2 bolts on the top outside and 2 inside, is there 2 more on the inside i dont know about? is it easier to just remove the clutch and the flywheel? i cant seem to turn the clutch manually to remove some of the bolts around it, what am i doing wrong???

You nee to remove the Clutch and flywheel. If your having a hard time turning, use a long screwdriver or prybar on the ring gear teath and the bellhousing. Once that's off and all bolts arw out, it may still hang up on the dowel pins light tapping with a hammer should get it off.

can this still be done even if the engine seized? will the teeth on the flywheel stand the kind of force put on them??

If the engine is seized so bad it won't turn, using a pry on the teeth won't make it move.

You're gonna have to reach up into the bellhousing and remove all the 12mm bolts holding the PP on - then remove the flywheel bolts (you may need an impact) then remove the BH bolts behind the flywheel.

Tap off the BH

And Jeez, that 2F sitting sideways on that HF hoist gave me flashbacks to my engine pulls ... !

You still have 4 more bolts to go on the inside.

That flywheel is likely the heaviest you will ever find outside of a HD deisel motor, don't let it sever your toes when you finally get it free.

Yes. I had to do this with a 1/4" flex-head ratchet and a short extension. It's a bitch, but possible. Fortunately, the bolts had not been loctite-d

hey guys thanks for all the help! i was able to turn the engine to get the bolts off the clutch, my neighbor Alan came over with his "BFT" and we were able to turn the engine, once the 12mm bolts came off the clutch the flywheel was pretty easy! i placed a DR.Pepper can next to the "BFT" so you could see the sheer size of this thing, apparently this thing was used to repair old tractors down here in Tejas!

Put a 2x4 brace under the front of that motor ! or leave the hoist on it ! Hell, you could even use that mini-pipe wrench!

yeah i was gonna put a piece of 2x4 under it, its rated at 1000lbs but then again its a harbor freight

I've done several 2Fs on my HF engine stand without problems. Just be careful when moving the stand around.

Old thread but helpful. Can't help but wonder, seized engine or did he remove the plugs before attempting to turn the motor over? The after picture shows plugs in.
