Iron Man mentioned the mattress pad from Costcos. I could not find one that was 48" wide. Has anybody found a mattress 48" Wide X 6'-0 or longer? Also could it be rolled up. I have used the Thermorest, and want something a wee bit more comfortable.

I got two gym mats at Sports Authority. They're about 24" wide x 72" long. They fold into four sections that are 24" x 18" and are a bit cumbersome when folded but are as comfortable as my bed at home.

Thanks H, and BTW, what's new? I'm thinking of a Utah wheeling trip in April and a Colorado one in July. Let me know if you are going to be in either place around then, would be cool to meet up again.

Crap!

Sorry Up, I hadn't been back on the thread in a while. :o

Definitely, I'll let you know.

CO has tons of snow, so it looks like some of the high trails may not open until late July, if at all this year!

Question?

What would your bed size be if you included the plywood, etc, over the wheel wells? Total width then? You could build a sliding storage box, with a larger top on it and have the top that went over the wells.

If you're 22" up from the floor, then is your face come close to the ceiling when you're laying down?

I need to do something similar and was thinking about using the same height as the second row seat folded down. However, what I was envisioning was a 4x8 of plywood cut to about 6', hinged and folded so that I can shorten the platform when the seats are being used. When the seats are folded down, then open the entire length (sort of like a bifold closet door) and use the backs of the folded seats for support. All space underneath will be used for storage of course.

Anyway, I need to start on this before Cruise moab so I've got some time yet. Looking forward to seeing some platform bed in the back of an 80 pics.

Nah, its great. The bed surface is a couple of inches lower then the windows. Plenty of room for sleeping, I can't sit straight up or anything. The nice thing about this height is the amount of storage that I have under the bed. Its working great. I've been living in my truck for over the past week. Nice and comfy, although the -10F a few nights ago was crimping my style a bit. :D
