Bearing Preload....15# Too Much?

FJ60 axle going into my 40, 38.5 SX's (I want some Pit Bulls tho) on steel beadlocks, hydro-assist saginaw & ARB .... mainly a trail rig these days.

IIRC my 40 axles was 10 - 12 pounds with the fish scale. Is 15# too much?

How much more? I know they'll loosen a little with driving nd can pull a thin shim still.

Mine are 15lbs on my wagon. They run a little hot on the highway, but the grease holds up. Been that way for 3 years since the last rebuild.
