Hey Guys,

So for Christmas, my gf got me this really nice coleman bbq:
Coleman - RoadTrip Pro SS Grill -=

Its a really cool grill, but it just seemed way to big and heavy to put in my car and take camping. It just felt like it was oversized. 65 lbs to be exact.

So we just returned it, and im in the market for a new camping grill. I saw Brents Camp Chef at SNT this year, it was awesome. The only problem is that I dont want to carry a 5lb propane tank around. Space is limited so i kinda prefer the little 16.4 oz gas canisters.

What grills are you guys using ?

I have always been eyeing these nice stainless steel Magma grills:
TrailMate

They seem really nice, but I have never see one. Looks like its a little small. They burn at 10,000 BTU. Is that sufficient enough ? Are they good quality ?

I want a good quality, decent sized grill.

A good bbq always makes for a better and tastier camping trip.

Thanks!!

I've hauled around a big Coleman roadtrip LE on a lot of scout campouts, similar to the one you returned. You're right about it being a big sucker though.

I've always been partial to the coleman green stoves. We've used them for family trips for years (even going back to the old pump style).

IMHO, you can't really go wrong with one of these and they fold up nice and small. They aren't fancy, but they are work horses.

Haddock,

I have the newer style of this stove. Awesome stove, works well in high wind. But I am primarily looking for a grill though.

What about a Camp Chef grill box?

Grill Boxes - Camp Chef

Covert your stove into a grill.
Dan,

I saw these, and they are awesome. Brent has a similar setup. I dont kow if I want to carry a 5 lb propane cyliner. Do i have any other alternatives ?

Harry,

Look at this little Weber:

Weber Grills and Accessories - Grills

It's not the greatest, just OK. It is small and runs off the small propane bottles tho.

The 3 burner Camp Chef is heavy and bulky and uses the 20 lb propane tank. As you saw at SnT, I do use the grill box on the Camp Chef that Dan posted. It work's great. I love the set up and with the trailer, I won't have to put it on the roof rack any more!

The 2 burner Camp Chef is a little better size and weight wize. Our scout troop has 4 of them. They are still heavy and bulky and you can't run them off the little propane bottles either.

We have this grill by Igloo... (rebadged as many different names)

It's held up well over the last 2 years. I had to replace the hardware with nylocks because stuff would rattle loose. The only beef i have about it is, it blows out with any wind... and it doesn't have a good enough flame control.

But im also very picky with my grills. I have yet to find the perfect one yet and im actually in the market for a new grill soon.

For Charcoal use when we feel like it, we use the notebook grill. Only drawback is it doesn't have a lid. One cool thing is you can use it for a small fire pit. 1-2 logs only.

As for my dream Q.. I've been eyeing this infrared turbo grill for a while and one day i might have to pull the trigger :D

dude, that Solaire grill is SWEEEET!

I want I want I want.....

I tried the Roadtrip but couldn't deal with the bulk and weight. I now have this one:

Stainless Steel Mountable Grill - Item - Camping World

It heats to 600deg easily and even higher if there's no wind. Super even heat, easy cleanup and I feel like I can grill like on a full-size at home. I mounted the fold out arms to my swingout jerry can holder so the grill slides right on to mount to the swingout. I highly recommend it...

Been really happy with my small portable Pilot Infrared Stainless Grill knockoff I bought about year in half ago, ~ $200 on flea bay. Cooks really fast, meat in 5 mins or less. Search for “Portable Infrared grill” and a bunch should come up. SOLAIRE’s go for 300+ but I heard the quality is top notch, so worth it if you can afford a little more.

Awesome guys, i really appreciate it. Ill be making my decision within the next couple of days.

I think ill be going the Solaire route for now for our off road expeditions and camping trips. For the hunting trips I put together, we get like 5-10 people to attend, so a camp chef will be better suited down the line with a smaller propane tank.

Yeah it is! I just got approved from the boss to go ahead and get it! Im so happy i proposed to yosh.. shes the best! We are splitting the money we'd both spend buying each other b-day gifts and instead buying the new grill!!!
