REVENGE!!!

Just as an FYI there is a new obstacle on Bud right after the first ledge you have to climb. Some rocks got winched into the middle of the trail and are a formidable challenge. Still not as bad as the last obstacle in my opinion but it is very narrow and I had to get pretty tippy to get through without tearing up my sheetmetal.

Gotta love Stupid people. Hey guys lets use our winch so this is tougher trail for our rock buggy's who cares about everyone else

Dan :cheers::steer::bounce::bounce2:

I don't have my spare rears, so I might have to sit this one out.
It's a guarantee that I WILL break a rear axle if I DON'T have spares.

Damnit!!!

We finished the front Dana44 install on Joe's truck last night, this will make a good test run.

@Keith, take a chance the trail is right in town if things go pear shaped.

Hey great that Joe is rolling!
We owe you a thanks, one of the magazines you gave me for Joe had an article on installing a locker in a Dana 44 it was a big help.

Jack also deserves a mention, he answered a few questions that made me more confident we were on the right path with the install.

Joe did some welding on this project, he aint half bad.

Kieth,
Spare rears? I'm sure there is a joke in there somewhere.:) Hope you can make it. If it would help, I could bring my trailer up and trailer any broken rigs home. Let me know--anyone, if you think that would be a good idea.

Dan,
Glad the mags helped. You the man for even attempting the locker install. I think Joes XJ is going to kick butt! Should be a fun run. :steer:
See ya'll in the morning

Glad to hear it's all back together. Glad I could help (not sure I did too much).

Jack

Small issue!!
Hope you guys got it back together okay!!
Sorry I had to bail early.

We were done by around one. Other than being violated by a rock or two in places best left unmentioned it went well.

Uh oh. It isn't the sign of a quick fix when you set up shelter over the vehicle.
Joe's steering box sector shaft broke off. No way to predict a fail like that. The good news was the parts store was only a mile away and they had a steering box in stock.

The sun shade was Marks idea, it was a life saver.

We were lucky to get out of there when we did. It was darn right toasty. Me and my son jammed to lunch. Not so much for the food but the air conditioning, we polished off a pitcher of water between the two of us. I don't know how Dan did it under that rig for hours taking the old part off and the new one on. Joe was also down there grubbing along also. When Dan says he was violated by those rocks he wasn't kidding. He had to snake his body over and around and lay ontop of uneven microwave size rocks. :eek:Ouch then and the next morning.

The "new" obstacle is a good one and not impassable with some tecnique and a good rig. Joe was able to get thru fine when he was fixed. It looks like those not able to make it are already trying to make a bypass(tread lightly?). This is a great trail and perfect to get out and keep your skills up and test new modifications on the rig. I am glad we started early cause it does get hot in that canyon.

Still a good day.:) Next? Fordyce anyone. Sierra trek next weekend- The top half friday night? anyone? Margaritas at winch hill 5 when your done. Food for me.

Thanks for the props Mark the shade you built made all the difference, without that I would have cooked.

Sorry to hear about the breakage. Like you said, that would be hard to PM. The shade idea is brilliant.

Did you replace the box with a cherokee or durango box? The reason I ask is because the durango box is larger/beefier and supposedly steers bigger tires easier. Very common upgrade in the jeep world for TJ's/XJ's.

Now you tell us.

I think we were both happy to find any steering box that worked and have it back to the truck so fast. I didn't even get the old box completely out before they got back.

BTW a big thanks to Keith for running Joe to the parts store. It helped a lot to be able to split up the task, pretty much cut the repair time in half.
