Apples to apples oranges to oranges. If you can make what I sell for the same price I will buy it from you. I have spent years figuring out the best/cheapest way to get mil spec cables. it does cost a bunch but you get a bunch. The parts you quote are crap; you would be better off buying hi end pre made NAPA cables for less money/labor.

Dave-Chill out! Dude asked a question and I gave an answer, sorry if you felt personally attacked.

The chit I put together was top quality. 1/0 fine stand welding cable from my local supply shop. 2/0 wasn't much more but I wante more flexible stuff. Got top quality lugs from delcity.net, also got super nice 3m heavy duty heat shrink with the mastic inside from them. I had to special order the military type terminals-$5 each and they are the same ones we (the US AirForce) use on our Humvees. Welding shop had the crimper for $9.95 and I dropped the solder in as well. Didn't need special cutters, just used the vise with a standard pair of big linemans for extra leverage.

I am wiring up my new dual battery set up for under $50 and that includes a bunch of extra cable and lugs as its going into a 3 way marine switch.

Your time is worth something and you provide a valuable service. I simply enjoy doing it myself, having custom cables and staying within my anemic cruiser budget. .Just my .02

One last thought. I didn't use "marine cable" and I guess that could add significan expense. But then again, I live in a dry climate and don't tends to get saltwater on the cables (from snow melt ect).

i use welding cable myself, but YES there is a HUGE difference in price, 1/0 welding is under a $1 a foot, marine(Ancor) is about $5 a foot......and that difference adds up VERY fast. I used 60ft of 1/0 welding cable to rewire and install 2 dual battery systems......if I used marine that would have cost $300!

to help run any cables, heat up the cables, just let em sit under a warm hood for a while, MUCH easier to use then,

Sorry Dan, I guess I took it the wrong way. The marine cable is really 'spensive. The advantage is a stronger sheath and it is a much more flexialbe cable. it is designed to resist all chemicals and will not break due to vibration.

Um, that's a lot of cable. If I may ask, how on earth did you use alll that. That's 15ft/battery, if my math is right. :)

2 cruisers, added dual batts to both(cables run across the front on the 60) replaced all the stock cables(basicaly what David sells) it just takes ALOT of cable......much more than you would think. I might have redone the winch cables on the 60 as well.

I used 8ft to wire up my 40. Batteries were side by side,I've got a 2.5ft segment left over to make the winch cable once I get a winch---taking donations:D
