Smaller solenoids are used in the trade as well which break current below 100amps at 135v DC. These contacts need cleaning to be efficient, and they don't operate as often as your dual battery solenoid would be.
often the worst case for contacts is to sit for long periods of time and then be asked to work properly. We use gold contacts for some low voltage (10v, .1 microamps) applications that may sit for a year or two then be asked to opperate. My only point was not all contacts are created equal.
