My battery hold down is missing so I had my parts dept order it. I can get the j hooks and nuts, but the cross bar shows no longer available. Do I have to buy from a vendor or is there another part number that is available?

Cut a piece of 1/8" x 1/2" x 1/2" angle to length, and drill a 1/4" hole at each end, paint it if you want. It will last years longer than those tin hold downs. One of my first mods.

^2 Exactly what I did for by aux battery install. Simple/cheap to do.

cheers,
george.

Well the part got kicked off the packing slip for not being available but it still came in with the order Saturday.

Thanks. I've already got some angle sitting around, so I'll probably do that, but I'd like to at least see the J hooks and how the system works to see if it's something I can source locally, otherwise I'll order the j hooks. I'm not sure where they hook in.

You may be able to fab the j-hooks, but they are worth getting for a tidy install and ease of use.

There's a hole in the inside fender where the fender side j hook goes. There's a slot (like an L shape) in the fiberglass (or whatever the tray is made of) on the engine side of the battery for the other j hook.

If you have your own angle iron/aluminium and are using a battery of 'different' height, you may as well just buy some generic j hooks at an auto store that are threaded long enough and cut extra thread off.

No need to use and pay $OEM for something so simple....

Bunch of stuff including part numbers and pictures to give you an idea of the stock j hook locations etc etc etc....

Went to the local hardware store, they didn't have exactly what I needed, but close enough. I got two 8" long eye bolts and two nylock nuts. I cut both eye bolts to make them j-bolts (they didn't have the correct length in a j-bolt), then had to cut one down to 7" and leave the other at 8". Only took around an hour to cut the angle, drill it, paint it, cut the bolts, and assemble it all. $9 for the bolts & nuts , but at least it's done.
