battery/alternator??? wtf wont start

just bought an 88 a week ago today, rebuilt motor w/about 300 miles on it. been driving it all week and has ran great. i bought a new battery for it when i bought it and put it in before i drove home. yesterday i come home from lunch and park it for about 30 min. come back out and it wont crank, like it has a dead battery. i roll it off. no problems cranking the rest of the day or this morning. come home again for lunch, same thing. stopped 3 times in town on my way back and turned it off, fired right up each time. go to leave work at 5 today and had to get jumped off, just tried it a minute ago same thing wont crank like a dead battery.

is it possible the battery i got is no good, should i try charging it? or is my alternator bad? how do i tell?

look at your alternator gauge! or if you only have idiot lights, make sure the charge light comes on when you turn the key to the on position if not, your light is burn out replace it, also check your battery voltage, charge it, then leaving it unhooked remove the charger when it reaches full charge, let it set for a couple of hours and test it.

fixed it. frayed and partially broken grounds off of negative terminal.
