Hi Folks

I wonder if you can provide some simple advice please. I have an "H" reg LJ78 auto Japanese import and can't seem to get it into 4WD or hub lock. Is there a particular order in which you have to put it into low ratio and press the "4WD" and "Hub Lock" buttons? It goes into low ratio fine, the aforementioned buttons light up on the dash but it's just not getting up the gradients I would expect and the right rear wheel is spinning on it's own (which I'm guessing shouldn't happen when the hubs are locked?).

Any advice (or an owners manual!) welcome.

Cheers

Welcome aboard !
From what you describe leads me to believe one or both of your electric hubs are not working.
They use carbon brushes which to the untrained get smashed off when mechanics service the hubs and or wheel bearings.
There is plenty of info on this form re this issue please use the search function with regard to "Electric Hubs"
You will not find an owners manual for this vehicle... But there is a great workshop manual which can be down loaded
Name: Land Cruiser KZJ 70 Series II - 1KZ-T Engine
Description: Chassis and engine manual for the LC KZJ 70 series with 1KZ-T engine

Welcome! I second everything Kbushnz said, except, there is a much better repair manual here: http://www.landcruiserparts.co.uk/t...ion=com_virtuemart&Itemid=7&vmcchk=1&Itemid=7

Costs a little bit of money, but is by far the most complete repair manual for the LJ78. Includes EVERYTHING except for the engine. Other manuals out there have parts missing such as the details about the e-hubs which is the info you need. I can upload this manual somewhere if you have an ftp or something.

Also, if you can read french, I have the owners manual in french. You can read it to understand how your 4wd works. I can email it if you want.
