Baofeng UV-82 programming

I see that these hand-held 2 meter radios are very reasonably priced. I also know about the programming software for loading the repeater frequencies into the radio. But I wonder if I need the $20 USB-radio cable to run the software. Anybody know a cheaper alternative?

I have the cable but haven't yet programmed mine to see if it works. If you want you can borrow it.

Thanks for the offer. I will order the radio and decide about a cable later. I was thinking you need to program the repeaters to use the radio, but now realize that for simplex chatting, the repeaters are not required.
