BAJA RACKS RUST!!!!! Any solution???

If it were me, I'd have the whole thing media blasted, then coated in a professional spray-on truck bed coating such as LineX or Rhinelining. There really isn't anything tougher than that, and they are MUCH thicker coatings (you could even ask to have them sprayed thicker than usual). Coating like this is what've done with other aftermarket stuff like bumpers, roll bars, nerf bars, etc....

i picked up a Baja "rust" rack for the 80series cheep $75.. I scraped all the loose pealing coating off, then wire wheeled it then acid to neutralize the rust, prime and paint with flat black oil based paint. no issues ever since. nice light weight rack for cheap.

Thanks for posting this. I'm looking for a rack and just crossed Baja off the list.

FWIW, Rhino-Rack trays are all aluminum and composite. No rust, never once seen the powdercoat separate.

Thanks for the replies.
BajaRack has very good customer support. They paid to have the rack redone. I took it to New Age in Sewell NJ. It was media blasted and better than new.
That's good to hear you got this resolved. I had an issue with their mounting hardware. Wrong pitch locking nuts or something. They quickly sent me a whole new set of brackets/nuts no questions.

I bought a full sized Baja rack as well, and I live in the western desert. Multiple points of lost powder coating and rust at the weld points. Yes, I used it for loading heavy gear (so I used it as they should have expected). I'm less than pleased to have had to sand multiple sites down and rattle can it after having it about a year!
