I did the same a few weeks ago. Only difference is that I used the original converter and put in a relay in for the tail light circuit (boat trailer had overloaded it and blown the converter). Was to cheap to go for a fully powered converter when the end result is the same, maybe better with a realy mounted in the rear. The separate power feed will also be hooked up to a separate outlet in back.
Routed wire through the rubber grommet in the firewall, and then took off all the interior moldings all the way to the rear. Managed fairly easily to "fish" the wire past the "B" pillar. Apart from that, a relative breeze. Tied the wire to the existing (large) black harness that runs all the way to the back.
Just busy with house remodeling, but will try to post some photos soon.
