I was a bit of a knuckle head today trying to finish a project a bit to quickly and I paid the price. I hooked the battery up backwards on my 95 fj80. I accidentally grabbed a battery that came out of my 4runner and it has opposite poles to the fj80 battery and hooked it up for maybe 2 seconds and removed it. I got the smoke from the fusible link so I know that's bad but I'm just wondering how likely it is that things like the ICU or the alternator are bad and what would need to be replaced to make them work properly again? Then again I could just hook it up with a new fusible link in the morning and it could all work (I hope). It turns over but doesn't start. no engine light. and only the dome light fuse was blown. I have no radio or headlights. I don't know about anything else though. it was such a stupid day for me.

Change the fusible links and then try to start the car. You may have other fuses blown as well.

The battery terminals are different sizes and wouldn't have fit properly...

Brian's right, that's what fusible links are for. Once they're replaced, you should be OK (we all hope!)

sorry very late reply. it was thankfully just the fusible links. sure scared me though.

I did the exact same thing when I bought an optima yellow top (also reversed) I was so excited to put it in that I didn't even think about it...until I saw the sparks and smoke haha. What a kick yourself feeling that was. Glad it didn't fry your computer.
