Hello friends,
Posting up on here to see if I could get some friendly guidance on how to proceed.
I’m sure this is a familiar issue among 80&100 owners as I had a similar issue with my 100 that I never dealt with.
But on my 105 I intend to keep I would like to see about dealing with the excessive backlash in my differentials and transfer case.
While driving it’s extremely sloppy between gears. I got under it today and eyeballed about .500 of free rotation on the front pinion shaft and about .130 on the rear. This Is measured as rotation of the outer face of the pinion flange. And this slop is accommodated by the transfer case while the transmission is in gear so there’s a least as much play in the transfer case as well. I can’t identify if there is actually play in the transmission as well…that’s an inspection for a later date.
Anyone have any insight or advice on how to proceed with addressing this issue. Simple as adjusting my diffs or will I be into a transfer case rebuild? And or transmission rebuild?
Driveshafts/u joints have been greased, fluids are good, u joints are solid.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
