After many years of regretful teeth gnashing and chest beating over the sale of my '76 FJ40, I finally got back into the Cruiser party. I always told myself I would grab one once I had room in the driveway and, once the space was cleared a month ago, I started looking for a replacement but this time one that would accomodate a growing family. After a little Father's Day negotiating I got my 1980 Troopy (2H) a couple weeks ago. Very stoked. The plan is to keep it pretty true to its roots. I definitely have some refamiliarizing to do but am getting there slowly but surely. It's pretty mechanically sound so first substantive project is fold down seats in the back (mine did not come with them). After some preliminary searching I am thinking I may need to resort to ebay searches here and in AU. Any other thoughts would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks in advance.

:flipoff2: welcome,

nice first post;) best one i've seen in a while.

you should be able to find seats without too much drama, i think that ( Specter Off-Road, Inc. Land Cruiser Parts and Accessories <--- link) has them from time to time.

you will find that the diesel forum, the 45 series forum and the classifieds here on mud will get you just about everything you will need (or at least get you headed in the right direction).

cheers

Welcome....
..the H engine was the strongest Diesel engine you could get for such trucks at this time.
A rare engine and in my opinion an engine that you should keep in your truck.
On the long run such rare HJ 45(edit in 45) with this 6 cylinder engine are a good (or the best) "value invest".
They will be searched by collectors.. needs a bit time, but it will come believe me. ;)
Some info about your engine

and the other Toyota diesel engines

Thanks for the warm welcome. I did check with SOR and they don't have any HJ47 seats right now. They told me to check back in from time to time as they get shipments of new and used parts (presumably from Australia) periodically. I'll keep scouring.

Daniel - I'm in Los Altos, CA (just south of San Francisco). I picked the HJ up in San Diego. Could not wait for it to be shipped so I drove it home. A bit ambituous, yes, but I wasn't in a huge hurry and it drove very well for the 500+ mile trip. In fact, it rode more smoothly than I expected and hoped it would based my FJ experience. I just couldn't wait to get it in my garage.

Done, Josh. Thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks Hayseed, you are in the list.

What kind of law do you practice? I am an American lawyer living in Australia and I practice criminal and commercial law.

Best regards,

Josh
