I have a 92 two wheel drive pickup that I am thinking about making into an offroad rig. I have a D300 case that I am thinking about putting behind a 231 for a doubler set. I read somewhere that a heep AW4 and a Toy auto are the same. If this is true would anyone know where this info can be found.

I have heard the same but have no idea where.

Edit: The AW4
The AW4 four speed automatic transmission was selected by AMC for use in the Cherokee (XJ) new inline 6 4.0L design. It was manufactured by Asian-Warner, a member of the Toyota group, in partnership with Borg Warner. It shares many parts with its sister Toyota transmission the 450-43LE, incidentally another popular off-road vehicle.
That came from here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AMC_and_Jeep_transmissions

I am planning a similar swap, except my truck is already a 4wheel drive. From what I have learned through asking and searching on Pirate4x4.com the main section of the transmissions are the same, but the bellhousings and tailhousings are different. However, I have also learned that these unbolt and *should* be a direct swap.

So, with this info, my plan is to buy an AW4, remove the bellhousing from my current A340 tranny, bolt it to the AW4 and pray that the AW4 will then bolt up to the 22re.

I hope to get this done in the next 6 months or so, but we'll see what happens.

Ary
