Has anybody used an Autometer 2888 or 3788 with a 24v system? Or more specifically Does the alternator pickup work on a 24v alternator. I have been searching and it seems like a lot of people like them for the 12v. Thanks

BUMP!!!

I need answers to the same question(s).

Both units are 12 volt per Autometers web site. Why don't you buy a 24 volt stock gauge cluster, use a Dakota digital tach interface with one of the many many sensors/pick-ups? Easy and you could get all the parts for the price of the Autometer tach. Plus, with the dakota unit you can adjust the calibration very easily.

Just an idea.

Check the link on my swap near the very end on how I installed a Dakota convertor. Also search for diesel tach and ASTR, both will show more good info.

It will work fine. The pickup senses the magnetic field, its not actually wired to the 24V system at all.

Yes the sensor generates it own signal, but the tach requires 12 v source to work per Automater, lights are an easy swap.

Kicking up an old thread. Has anyone hooked one of these auto meter tachs up in a 24v system that was downregulated to a 12v supply successfully? Thanks!
