Does the BJ74, LJ78 and the 77 Series all share the same automatic transmission?
Thanks

Umm nope.
LJ78 is an A340 and is ECU operated
Bj74 is something different. I think A440... and is not ecu controlled, old school stuff.

I was doing some looking into the transmission options and found how to read the transmission codes. Not sure if it has been shared before but I find this stuff interesting.

1st Letter: Transmission series (some times this is a letter and a number)
A = Automatic Built By Aisin
Based on application it loos like A3 is std series and A4 is HD Landcruiser specific series
H = Manual
Second to last digit:
Number of gears.
Last digit:
Toyota series number (generally higher number would equal later generation)
Final letter:
-E=Electronic control
-F=Four wheel drive
-H=AWD Transverse mount engine
-L=Lock-up torque converter

So for the A440F it is a A4 series 4 speed, initial generation with four wheel drive.

There are electric and hydraulic versions of the automatic transmission.
