I want to put an auto behind my turbo'd 2L. The back of the engine is identical to a 22RE.

There are no electronics coming off of the diesel and they never came to this country with an auto behind them.

How much is there in the way of electronics to make the tranny work. Can the electronics be bypassed to make the tranny work with this engine?

Thanks,

Adam

The shift points will be wrong for the engine... And whatever that 2LT's power output is, take another conservative 20% away from it... YIKES!

And what tranny is it?

Well, shift points? Computers? We don't need no stinking shift points and computers!

Shift Controllers (Flappy paddle it:D)

Thank Pirate A340 FAQ:cheers:

Those shifters may just be the ticket.

I'm not worried about the power loss. I'm running a well boosted 2L that puts down plenty of power for my intended application...which is to put this engine into a Formula Toy and build up a buggy.

I've wheeled manuals since the beginning, but just got back from Moab wheeling my FZJ80. I took a real liking to the auto last week.

How do the auto's that came in the mid-80's trucks hold up to rockcrawling?

Thanks,

Adam

not well...........its not that beefy auto like what is in the 3fe or the 80

In doing some more poking around, it looks like the 340 is identical to the AW4, at least internally.

They seem to hold up just fine behind the Jeep 4.0 which is has more power and torque than a Toyota engine.

I might go that route instead.

Yea Jeep used the aisian for a few years......now those are fine.

I do miss the comfort of my old auto in my 62 but my mini 5 speed is much more capable.
