Sound rookie here. Wiring up Focal ASE-165 aftermarket speakers to my ML equipped 02 LX470. It's a component system, so crossovers for the hi and the low. I was going to plug the crossover to the low, but ChatGPT said to plug it into the high. Is this right?

I'd run a new high frequency wire from the existing tweeters (I assume the nearest ones are the dash speakers, I don't have one in front of me at the moment) to the new tweeters. This means tapping the existing line, and running a new wire through the door penetration, alongside the existing subharness.

Crossovers are meant to do the frequency splitting; you already have that done for you. If you run the high frequency signal through the crossover to the low frequency (woofer) speaker, you've lost signal before it gets into the speaker.

Hey. When I ran a passive setup like yours, I had my tweets/mids plugged into a crossover like ChatGPT says. ML itself controls the frequencies, you just need to plug them in. Is this your kit?

Yes, that is the one!

So you're basically saying don't use the crossover and just use the factory door wiring, high to high, low to low, mid to mid.

That's what the amp is designed for; unless you want to use another amp, that's the best use of the equipment.

What's the concern level for 4ohm speakers in a 8ohm ML amp? I don't really blast music, I'm generally a low-mid, and the occasional "turn it up a little louder and sing along" but not "blasting" sound competition levels.

I think you already know the answer, since you asked. It'll work, but you risk overheating the amp. Remember, current goes where it's asked for, the lower the resistance the more the current wants to go there.

I am here to request an update

Subwoofer still unplugged, but I replaced all the lows with aftermarket 4ohms. Can barely hear anything out of the 2nd row. Not using the separate OEM tweeter, have some Coaxials in the 2nd row. Fronts, everything is plugged into factory setup. Kept the OEM tweeters and mids in the 1st row.

Played some music on a long road trip and it was awesome. Didn't blast it loud, but was a pleasant surprise with the sound I was hearing. Used one of those bluetooth Yatour modules that replaces the CD changer.

Wonderful stuff. Going to keep it like this for now.
