so, when i bought my 4runner, i also got a can-back soft top for it used. it was a good deal and i really wanted a quality top so i got it with the understanding from many forum posts and websites that it was weather proof. i didnt bother putting it on cause it was cold at the time and I had plenty of other work to do first (engine and trans rebuild).
last night i started putting the thing together. I knew going into it that i was going to have to make something to attach the rear flap to because i didnt want to go the route of drilling holes into my tailgate for snaps.
but, now that i have the top on the truck, i dont see really how its supposed to be weather-proof? around the cab, the top really just snaps down to the cab strip. so water coming from the front of the truck could go in right? i mean its a tight fit, but not water tight.
like if i were driving on the highway in the rain, it would just come up over the windshield, across the roof and into the cab inbetween the canvas and metal snap strip. right?
now, i havent tried this thing out at all yet, but just my observations in building so far. any one agree here?
the thing that sucks is that it could have been easily remideed. all they would have had to do is make the canvas a couple inches longer and put the snaps on the underside of the metal strip. then you could fold it over the metal strip and snap it underneath before bolting it down to the rubber weather strip. nice tight fit. just seems like something they should have considered for 1400 freakin dollars IMO.
