I recently bought a ARB mt-45 fridge. When I plugged in the unit I noticed that the digital display is in celcius not fahrenheit. Has anybody figured out how to change it or modify it to read out in fahrenheit? The owner's guide is of no use.

Called ARB today and they told me that there is no way to change celcius to fahrenheit from the factory. Has anybody tackled this project? I can always print out a conversion chart but I would like to get it to read in F. Catalog and website make no mention of the celcius reading.:bang:

Zero C equals 32 F. Very, very rough estimates add/subtract 3 from 32 for every C on the display. Close enough for government work or a small fridge.

But every Celsius degree is almost twice as big as a Fahrenheit degree (9/5), so this estimate quickly deteriorates as you move away from freezing. E.g. you would estimate 80*F (~27*C) as 59*F (way off).

The conversion involves both a scale and offset.

Since F = 9/5*C + 32, a decent estimate is 2*C+30

In other words double the reading you have on the ARB and add 30. It will be within 3 degrees or so from freezing up to 90*F.

broc

Edit: On second thought, your point is well taken. Since a fridge generally runs in a narrow temp range near freezing, like you say, it is good enough- within 3 degrees from 10-40*F.

Boy am I glad you added that edit. I figure as long as the fridge is between 1 - 3, I'm fine. Like I said...close enough for government work...hehehe :D

Celsius is by far the better system... Basics are:

Normal fridge temperature is about 4

Normal freezer is about -18

Water of course freezes at 0
