So my truck fell off the jack (see the “what did you do” thread for details) last Friday, and this Wednesday it started squealing and squeaking really bad. Any time the passenger side flexes or compresses you can hear it. There’s a separate noise, like a scrape, every time you turn the steering wheel, and when I was underneath it, it was dead center. These are two separate noises. I fear I damaged my 60 day old rack & pinion. Took it to the mechanic in my town that I trust, and he said it was just the bushings in the control arms.

I trust the head mechanic, but he has several mechanics that work there, and I fear they only diagnosed the first thing they found and didn’t look further. Also, they quoted me prices about $200 less for the control arms than they are on the Toyota parts website, so I think they probably aren’t OEM. This puts me in a conundrum, because with 360k miles, replacing the arms to get new bushings is probably a good idea. I still plan on keeping my AHC no matter what way I go. But I am beginning to wish I held out for an FJ62. Anyway, how would you guys proceed? Oozing for a voice of reason, with the emotion removed from it all.
