I am starting to use my cooler more lately. I am talking about the factory cooler between front seats.

Is it ok to leave cooler on all the time?? No damage?

Thanks in advance.

10 years in, the fan in mine needed replacing. cheap part, but pain to replace yourself. (If it goes out, let Toyota do it).

I kept/keepit on always bothbeforee and since. Truck will be 13 years old in November so it’s very robust.

Mine is always on. It’s a 2013 and I’m the 2nd owner so I don’t know about PO. I’ve had no problems except a leaked can of Diet Coke that was left in the cooler over some hot days in July with truck parked not running.

I also leave mine on, but it will only work if AC is actually running. In lower ambient temps even if the light is on it doesn’t cool unless the compressor is engaged.

be careful in lower temps the box isn’t that well insulated from freezing overnight... ask me how I know. Thankfully it was only seltzer water.

Whether the cooler stays on is ambient temp and a/c dependent. There's actually a good page on it in the owners manual. I posted it in another thread here a while ago.

I used to leave mine on all of the time, but no longer do so due to a problem I ran into. I used to leave some sodas and bottles of water in there. The issue is as they cool the sodas would develop condensation on the can exterior. I would then park the car and the sealed fridge would get warm. The condensation then led to a moldy smell in there. I now only use it when needed and make sure not to keep cold cans in it when parked for a while.

I've taken to propping the lid up a bit when not on with a rag or folded up paper towel. The opening doesn't have to be more than 1/2 inch or so.

I do that sometimes, but the one time you forget is a pain. It's easier just to only use it when needed. Might save me from having to replace the fan down the road.
