This is going to my father for his base mounted CB in Canada. He is on a little island and they rely on CB to talk to boats and for emergencies when storms come in. (Very remote and if someone is not line of site, like around the curve of the island on a boat, they use these to help out). This is used by a trained and lisenced person.

It does not indicate which is the antena end and which is the CB end. Anyone know anything about these?

The thing with the hole in it is an so-239 connector. It connects to the antenna/coax via a PL-259 connector.

I just looked closer. It looks like there are two so-239's. And one would assume that it is an amplifier and everyone knows they are ILLEGAL to use.

Yes they are illegal in the united states. That is why this one will not be used in the US.

Maybe some of the EE's could figure it out if you posted a picture of the guts. Just a thought...

This is a very, very isolated place. Takes 3 ferries to get there and then a flat boat barge. Most transportation is through boats. Not many people around and not everyone is on VHF or Ham. Anyway, it is not illegal to have one, only illegal to use one in the US and I am not going to use it here nor is it mine for Canada.

it looks like the word "transmitter" is partially covered by the cover above the 239 on the panel with the toggles switch,,,
if that is what it says,,then that is where the xmitter should go,,input ,,,subsequently the other is the output...
it also appears that is a phantomamp,,,splatterbox extrordenair....good am amp,,,sux for ssb...

After cleaning the unit for the "gift Wow" aspect, I was able to see a small indentation of ANT. made sense after that.
