I was out near box canyon today going up some those loose steep hills, the atrac was doing its thing but at one point i heard an unsettling clunk, Looked under the rear end and it is leaking (slowly) where the third mates to the housing. What would you do?
A. Immediately change the oil and check for metal or teeth
B. Take it to the dealer and let them look at it under warranty
C. Ignore it and hope the grime will someday seal it up
D. Try to get the dealer to replace my gears due to the fact
that the build was in 6/06.
I haven't had any problems with my new FJ, and I have wheeled it pretty hard every now and then since new.
Good luck with that. I'm pretty sure LR is a tad further down the reliability totem pole than the FJCruiser but go with what makes you feel most comfortable.am I going to resort to selling my FJ and going and buying another Land Rover? When I take my Discovery off road, I have peace of mind I will get there and back.
Are you basing this on actual experience? I think it's pretty clear that Toyota is looking at all the issues that have popped up with the FJC carefully.lack of concern with how the customers feel. Then again, we are just white trash to them so I guess it doesn't matter.
Yes same rear diff. Soem might just be better set up than others, and also some R&Ps seem to have had a quality issue. Teh Taco rear failure is well documented over at TTORA. Haven't heard to much lately though.saw the rear diff break first hand today. if you are an f.j. owner you should be very worried. this f.j. only has 6000 miles on it with 33 inch tires. wasn't much of a hill either.
now i wonder if my tacoma has the same rear gears?
