Hello,

Looks like I am picking up a truck form the island with a dead frame. Need a trailer to get it back home with as the owner says its not really safe to drive.

Anyone got a flat deck car trailer I use that has electric breaks or Surge breaks?

Thanks!

I have one in my yard. It's Phil's but we can arrange to get 'er insured.

What'da get...

Well its got a diesel in it :P

Check with Uhaul against their oneway rates. It may be cheaper than borrowing a car trailer and paying the ferry on it both ways.

I checked with U haul but the combined weight of there trailer and the 60 exceeds there limits. The U haul trailers are 2500lbs them selves

U Haul car haulers with the double axles and full size ramps are rated to hold a 60, I pulled one back from the US with no issues, granted it had no engine, but you can load it up with a 60 no problem. Robert had his towed back from Merritt area that same way with no issues. They are cheap to rent, even one way.

My Parents have a 2500 HD Duramax but its with them in Arizona right now so I am trying to find something that can tow a trailer and meet there (U haul) weight formulas. A 100 series was not enough it was ok for a dolly but a rotted frame 60 on a dolly sounds like a bad idea.

Really?! I pulled up to U-Haul with my 60 ......with a rust frame and a trailer hitch from Princess Auto that I bolted on the day before, and they let me drive away with a full size, double axle, 2 ramp trailer........and they let me do it twice! Maybe the guys at Coquitlam have lower standards

Looks like we have a trailer lined up no, just trying to sort out insurance and some logistics. If you can get me some more info just in case, we are planing to go over on Saturday early AM.

Did they ask what you where towing with it? I cant believe they let that go, I had issues a few years ago towing my 3000lb Supra on one of there trailers behind my parents truck. They said in there system it was showing as to heavy, there truck has a 18k lbs tow rating and a class 5 hitch.

If I had a hitch on my 80 I would just go over and tell them I was towing a frame or something if asked. But I do not have a hitch on it unfortunately.....anyone got one I can use :P

I've got a hidden hitch, that came with the LX, that I've since removed... it attaches to the frame using the factory mounting tapped holes on the frame...

PM me if your stuck and want to got that route...

Well looks like we are all set, got a receiver hitch from UCruiser, a Plug in harness for my LX450 from Napa and a U haul one way. Its all costing way less than taking a trailer dead head one way ($250 cheaper). Plus now I do not need to worry about the rustbuket on the trailer scratching Axel's 100 series :p

I'll post pictures of our adventure when we get back Saturday.

LOL! good luck!

Well things have worked out so far. Got a hitch reciver from UCuiser, and a hitch from Axel. Got a plug in trailer wire harness from NAPA and plugged it in so good to go on that front. Gavin spent a few days at my place getting the 80 ready to tow, installing reciver and wiring, been a big help.

I got a complete 60 rear axle for Kim last night incase the rear end on the drivable on is so sized we can not get it out ( broken pinion).

Got on the road at 4:45am and am now on the ferry to the island. Pick up our U Haul in Langford on the way to Sooke.

Thanks all who have contributed parts and equipment to make this trip happen.

Well we are on the 7pm ferry back, 2 new land cruisers in tow. We will do a better write up of the days adventures when I get to a computer.

Oh man, you guys got the Cruiser disease bad!:D

Interested to see the prizes!
