Here's the deal, I bought my truck a couple years ago and it came with an Autozone starter on it. The starter has started acting up and I want to get a new one. The Autozone starter is covered by a lifetime warranty. The catch is that they can't swap out my starter without tying it to a specific one that was sold. They told me it doesn't matter who bought one as long as they bought one they can use the info to exchange mine. They said it doesn't effect the other purchaser either since it can be swapped an infinite number of times under the warranty. So, if you have bought an Autozone starter (part # 17186) and don't mind letting me use your info to swap mine, let me know.

That sounds much better than the POS Advanced Auto "World Class" remans that come with the slippery limited lifetime warranty that they usually sell as lifetime warranty. Good for one swap and maybe 2 if the replacement fails within 90 days. But anyways, sorry, can't help you here.

That sounds like a lot of trouble to replace a starter that you will likely replace again and again in the near future.

It's not much trouble at all to swap out a starter every 5 years or so. Well worth it if it's free.
