Hi guys, reading the wolf debate, made me think about the time a ranger pal of mine told me how delicious bobcat was, It was hard to believe that "cat" could be that good. Well on monday morning, he brought me one, killed the day before, all clean & dressed. I took it home, and cut all the meat off the bones, during this, I smelled the pink meat, no weird odor at all surprizingly, texture was kind of like pork loin. I put all the meat in a crockpot, with onion, carrots, celery, chicken broth, black pepper, and half a bottle of sauterne wine. It was amazingly good, though granted, anything probably would have tasted good in that recipe. My pal said that in years past, when trappers caught a bobcat, it meant a feast that night.
Just thought I'd share, I guess that's why Aisians partake in the consumption of "feline" Randall

I haven't had bobcat, but we've eaten mountain lion steaks. Your description was spot on with my experiences. If I hadn't know it was lion, I would have thought it was pork.

Yea, thought about mentioning that another friend of mine, that lives in Montana, said he went to a shop Christmas party once, and they had a complete spit roasted mountain lion / cougar, laid out whole on a table, he said it was awesome tasting even the tail. only the "rare" person will try it though.
You won't get grub like that at McDonalds !!

I've eaten fox..:meh: wasn't bad actually (deep fried).

Back in the day, when we were kids and were brought up with the "you kill it, you eat it" teachings, we even skinned a skunk for a try. Thank god there were little worms in the meat and that didn't happen..

A friend of mine has had it a few times. Just bbqed and said it was fine. I just can't bring myself to. Speeking of wolf I'm going on tuesday to help with the population here in Idaho, I hope.

As far as shooting a Bobcat, I think I will leave that up to my buddy,..The small ones look just like my pet cat,..

I stopped at a yard sale in Paso Robles, here in ca. one day, and the guy had wolves in a cage, I thought they would be like german shepards,...hell no !!!!!! these things were HUGE !!!

I can't imagine they get that big in the wild,..,I mean these things sttood about as high as a 55 gal. drum to their back.

There was NO mistaking them for any kind of dog.

How would you ever get one in your sights? they are so damn wary and elusive. keep us posted,..are you allowed to use a battery powered predator call?

No electronic calls are allowed. I would speculate that more wolves are taken by chance than by actually hunting. What I mean by that is a hunter will be out elk hunting and just 'run into one'.

I dont think I could eat one. After trapping them for years, I still cant stand the smell of bobcat piss after they are killed. I have had lion before and liked it.

Where I live (Northern Territory Australia) Cats are looked at as traditional food by aboriginal people in the central desert area. Funny that, they have only been in Australia for 200 years.

I've eaten a cougar or two in my day...

I dont understand eating a cat, it's gotta taste like s***.....

there was a place in nyc that was serving up Lion steaks, needless to say PETA on knocking on their doorstep. The lions were raised to be eaten though....kinda weird twist
