i'm planning on getting rid of all the pesky bolts that hold the top on and attaching a few clasps (like you'd see on a tool box) for easy removal of the top. the only place i foresee having to use any tools is where the top connects to the windshield and i should be able to make the rest obsolete. has anybody already done this? pictures?

Sounds cool. Like you say, I think you'd still have to bolt the windshield. Check out the roof and top diagrams for the older 45 pickups on SOR. I think they had a latch system like you describe.

would u mount the latches on the outside or inside, because the body is only sheetmetal, and your screws or bolts would stick outside of the body. Im not saying its a bad idea, I just dont want to see u drill holes and then find out the you will have bolts sticking out the side. also I think there is a hieght difference from the lip where the top sits on and the side of the body, so unless u can find latches that go over that, than u might have trouble. good luck though, it sounds like a good idea

the details are still up the air right now, but i figured the latches would be mounted on brackets to clear the lip in between the top and tub. then i would be able to bolt the latches to the brackets, and weld the brackets to the tub and top leaving a flat finish on the outside

My 45 top latches on very quickly. Look at the 45 mounts in SOR or MAF or whoever to get a few tips or ideas. Do you know anyone with a 45?

Not all 45s tops are removeable now that I think about it.
