My oldest Son (5) is getting into rocks/fossils/geology. Got a rock tumbler for Christmas, had some good results. Hoping to go out and find some of our own cool rocks/gems.etc.
Ultimate goal is really just to go on a cool adventure with my son, cool rocks are a bonus.
Any direction for areas to go within ~2 hours of KC? Have been using resources like:

But would love to hear some recent, first hand insight into best places to go. I'm NOT asking for a particular honey-hole (I'm a fisherman, I definitely get it) but general area/terrain features/public access points would be really helpful.
