Hi All,

I am having a cooling issue where the temp of my fj62 will go past the quarter mark, then go back down to it or slightly beneath it while driving, but when at a light or stopped will go bacvk up.

After driving, i will look under the hood and notice that the coolant resevoir is full, as if the radiator has pumped coolant into it.

Some where along the cooling path, there seems to be a clog. Any advice?

Thanks in advance.

I'd lean towards the fan viscous coupling (cooling ok when moving and hot when stopped). I'm not familiar with the 3FE but you may be able to disassemble the VC, clean it out and refill with new fluid available from Toyota (Cruiserdan at American Toyota).

It is possible since you are posting in the north east region that the radiator core and fins have become corroded and less efficient. Since my 80 came from OH and NY it has seen better days and will need to be replaced/recored before next summer. Check the fins on the front side and back side of the radiator, if there are sections missing you probably found your major issue.

Thanks. I will definitely look into this. I don't know Cruiserdan, but I will I'm sure I can find him.

Your advice gives me a great place to start. I'll let you know my progress, as it may help others who could run into a similar problem.

Dan is the parts manager for American Toyota out in NM, he offers a discount to Cruiser owners, just mention that your on the MUD board and he'll fix you up.

Since you're in the city take a look at GCLC's yahoo board. They use the yahoo board almost exclusively.

This is their home page:

Gotham City Land Cruisers

They are a good bunch of guys but unfortunately they do not use the TLCA (IH8MUD) board. Some of the info on their web site is out dated but Mark W. usually keeps the gallery and some misc. info up to date.
