It's been a while since I've been wheeling- 2007 really when I last locked the hubs. I did get to go out in Kyrgyzstan occasionally, but always as passenger-
My friend's 96 UAZ-
An old Soviet GAZ 66-
Always been a Cruiser head, but I needed something a little more technologically advanced, economical, and lighter duty.
My friend wanted to sell his 94 mini which he bought around 2002 from his pastor. It had 60K on it when he bought it. 8 years and 127K later, it runs like the day he bought it! 94 Dx, topper, dents, AC. Over the past few weeks driving in some bad weather with the hubs locked, a bit of wheeling, and mostly town driving averaged 17.9mpg. Not shabby.
Today I headed to the hills- BAD head wind which drifted in my tracks about 2 minutes later. Got stuck 3 times.
Some non-stuck pics:
Plans are something like this: 1990 Toyota Mini Pickup something I can drive long distances in order to get to the trailhead. Next week I hope to take it down to the San Rafael Swell for some canyoneering.
Looking forward to participating a bit in the Mini forum. Thanks!
