Another idea that adds a great deal of sound quality is to use Dynamat in the doors. It is a simple install. I installed it to the outer skins of my doors while I had the inner panels off during the speaker installation.
I would consider myself an "Audiophile" so I did spend some $ on my speakers, amps and head unit. IMHO my $ was well spent.
I will however concur that this post is a great tool for folks to refer to for a basic speaker replacement project.

great info on rear speakers, will be doing it this weekend now and if you have any info on rear stock sub upgrade id love to hear it!
 
ok so im in the middle of a complete speaker replacement because lets face it 16 years can do alot to speakers and im currently facing the dilemma of trying to pop the rear speaker plate doodillys whatever you wanna call em off and rather than go ripping through the back of my truck i figured it might just be a good idea to ask someone whos done this before.... id rather not break the plastic so im open to any suggestions if anyone has them
 
Rear as in the door? Must take of panel. Rear cargo area? Must take off headliner.

I am just curious as to why you installed the tweeter near the floor where the human ear will not hear the output as much, due to the sound being absorbed below by legs, carpet, etc?

Locating the tweeters near the window sill is the optimal location for good sound, especially since you are using component speakers.

That post was over four years ago, and he hasn't been on in two years, so don't hold your breath waiting for an answer.
