I have a 1980 Toyota 4X4 truck. I previously transplanted a 1984 22R and transmission into it. Now both the carb and dizzy are toast, and I want to convert it to EFI.
I’m still using the ’80 ECU. As I recall, the ’84 dizzy hooked right up without much fuss. I’m definitely using the ’84 carb, with altitude compensation (I live at 8K ft). I’ve found threads about this conversion, but they’re pretty specific to model years.
Is there an easier way to do this than try to sort EFI from an ’85 Celica?
Any other advice, to keep this hassle to a minimum?

I just swapped the whole engine, harness, and ECU into my 80. There are a bunch of differences in the years, whether it's a truck or Celica, etc. I would say that the only way to do it is to just get the complete swap from a donor vehicle. I'm sure the RE gurus can chime in and tell you what year/model to look for. I can tell you it sure is nice to have the whole vehicle sitting right next to the one you are swapping into... I can't imagine how many parts I would have had to order/junkyard trips/headaches/etc I would have had if I just tried to go get everything...

Lowe is pretty much spot on. If you want to go to the fuel injection you are going to need the ECU and harness from a donor. Complete upper and lower intake, throttle body, AFM, injectors, fuel rail and a number of sensors from the EFI truck. You will also have to sort out the fuel pump since the efi is going to need more pressure. The 84 carb that you mentioned won't be of any use in and EFI swap since the entire intake system is different. I believe the intake side of the head will bolt up fine. I have an 88 and a 92 lower intake laying in the garage and they are identical as far as the bolt pattern.

The biggest headache will probably be sorting out the two harnesses into the gauge cluster.

If you are looking to swap then finding a good donor vehicle and start picking off the parts you need.

Thanks. I reckon I was expecting cheery news.

My idea was to include the 30-gal tank and pump from a Suburban, mounted where the bed should be. Then look for a SmartCar emblem.

Will need to research more. But another junker in the yard is probably a deal-killer.

Sure do miss this rig, though.

Maybe the neighbor would let you park it at his house.

I understand completely, I am starting to push the limits of my parts hoarding capabilities. I hope to finish a few things and make a little space soon.

For the amount of work your going to put in, you can just as easily swap any engine, like a tacoma 3rz.

Thanks for the heads up. I wasn't thinking like that because only have maybe 5K on rebuilt bottom end, and sorta assumed anything newer would be oversquare.
Maybe I can offset cost by parting out short block and tx case.
Gotta rebuild a Rover Classic now (I mean, today). Got some time to figure it out. Definitely appreciate knowing about this option.
