I have used 5100s and stock fj or 4r springs. Soft, floaty and when we carpool with a 100lb kid in the very back we hit bump stops.

My options:
1) replace coils with Better product (Toytec RCC, OME fronts? Or Dobinsons $350+shipping);
2) buy a Dobinsons kit for $900 shipped;
3) get in on the Fox group buy on t4r ($2500ish?)

I would say your definitely in need of some stiffer rear springs. Dobinsons does make a variable rate for the rear that should keep you riding comfortable and off of the bump stops.

I just swapped from stock to 5100s and Toytecs all around. Have previously come from the sports car world, so while I don't understand articulation, droop travel, etc. I do have a firm grasp on vehicle suspension.

I do not see any dangerously negative aspects introduced since I swapped. Yes, the car does transfer weight faster, but not unexpectedly. One cannot assume the truck will handle the same as it did prior. Large bumps are much better damped as well as small concrete expansion joints. It rides rough on potholed roads, however.

OP, in your case, I'd honestly suck it up and buy a new set of stock shocks all around or swap to bilsteins and coils. The 5100s are almost an inch longer and you'd save yourself the headache of recalibrating the rear height. If you want to forgo the electronic adjustability, someone used 4runner shocks, which were about 80 bucks a corner.

I just want to add to my previous post because I had a hard time finding this information anywhere while researching prior to my install. I used my stock springs with the third notch from the bottom with my 5100s and I am now sitting at 22" from hub to fender. I put a 3/4 spacer on my rear height sensors and that leveled me out with the new front height . I'm gonna add 275 70 17 Cooper AT3 tires on 2015 4 runner wheels and I'm not expecting rubbing but we'll see!

I have 5100's and ill be installing them with toytec springs later this month. Whoever says they arent safe for our platform is silly. The T4R/FJ crowd have been running them forever with bumpers and etc adding way more then 200 lbs to the front end.
