Another Battery Question

I posted a week or so ago and got some good answers regarding a possible altenator problem. After fooling with it I found that the battery cables and somewhat loose. I know this a dumb question but could the cables being slightly loose cause the vehicle to idle low and cut off? the headlights are strong and I drove it aroudn the neighborhood with no problem. When I stopped, if I did'nt keep it at a high idle, it cut off. If it is a connection problem, it looks like i'll have to replace the connectors, they both appear stripped. Anybody have any idea where to get some? They look at little more complex than the standard universal types. Any help is apprieciated
