I used aluminum angle, aluminum square tube, and 1/2" ply to keep it light. All in it weighs around 90lbs.

Nice and simple, I like it - what type plywood?

Can you estimate material cost, and how many hours it took you (so we can ask our welder friends how much it'll cost for similar?

1/2" birch ply for everything except the drawer faces, which are 3/4" birch ply. I had a bunch of the aluminum laying around for a couple years. However if you check on Lowes or home depot website for 1/8" stock aluminum you will be able to price the high end of the cost range (actual metal suppliers will be less expensive). To help you with the estimate of the aluminum I used a rough total of 32' of 1" square tube and 22' of 1" angle. I also used ceramic screws to attach the ply to the aluminum frame. It probably wasn't necessary, but to prevent any contact where steel would be mounted to aluminum, e.g., drawer slides, I placed plastic washers cut from food containers. Turnbuckles, drawer pulls, drawer slides, and piano hinges will also need to be purchased. The carpet was $20 outdoor carpet from Lowe's.

The frame took me a couple of days total scattered over whatever hours I could grab during random evenings. Skinning it in ply, building the drawers, covering in carpet, putting in the hardware, and installing in my vehicle took a couple more days. Mind you, I was working alone and under the influence of "soon to be legal in some states" substances, so I wasn't super efficient. I wish I had done a little more searching for better drawer slides. These aren't bad, but could be smoother. I can see replacing them at some point in the future.

As you can see from the numerous drawer build threads, there are many ways to skin this cat. Most are just as good if not better. Some are much easier to execute. I happened to have more than half of the aluminum and a couple of sheets of 1/2 birch laying around, so my goal was to incorporate these into the build.
