Hi Folks,
just back from a month in Oz and 2 weeks in the bush (1800km total trip length). For this trip I ran an Acer A100 7" android tablet with Oziexplorer and various maps.

The A100 is a great little unit with built in GPS etc etc. I used a cheap ebay mount and an ebay sourced cig 12V adapter. The A100 ran all 2 weeks, only being turned to standby while camped.

Here's a small part of the tracklog/map from the trip:

and the driver's view in the vehicle. The 2nd gps is a garmin nuvi with oz shonky maps loaded as a backup.

Very pleased with the performance of the setup and can't imagine anyway to improve on it (yet).

Here's the trip writeup, not yet finished: http://www.george4wd.taskled.com/oz2012.html

cheers,
george.

Was it pretty easy to setup on your Acer? I have toyed with doing the same on my A500 but haven't been able to go wheeling since I came home from the sandbox so I haven't been motivated to research it much.

Yeah, it was very easy to setup, but then I have used Oziexplorer for many years on my laptop and also on a WinCE machine.

The latest Android version is very stable and has more than enough features for what I need it to do. The application install is easy and loading up maps on the microsd was easy enough as well. Since I have the PC version of Ozi, I can easily generate the appropriate maps etc from the android version. The tracklog/waypoint etc files are compatible between PC/WinCE/Android.

The rest is basically a no-brainer since Ozi uses the Acer's GPS. I also disabled the internal GPS and used a Bluetooth GPS dongle with a free bluetooth GPS app. That worked also.

I chose the A100 due to its smaller 7" size since I want it up near the instrument cluster/windscreen. I want to be able to see it without having to look away from the windscreen area.

cheers,
george.
