if you can afford to skip a little further north of New Mexico you'd be abel to take I-70 through Colorado. You'd get to see some amazing country and you and your son would be more than welcome to stay with us for an evening. Glenwood Springs is home to the largest geo-thermal hot springs in the world and would make for a nice relaxing evening or two on your journey. just something to think about...
